Working principle

The V30MLA0603WH functions primarily as a temperature-sensitive, current-limiting resistor. It is also known as a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistor. In normal operation, it maintains a very low resistance value, allowing currents to flow between its terminals with little or no voltage drop. When an excessive amount of current flows through the thermistor, its resistance increases almost instantaneously, effectively limiting further current flow.

When the current normalizes, the resistance of the thermistor returns to its low, normal value and current flow resumes. In this way, the thermistor can protect against voltage and current transients, as well as over-temperature conditions. The V30MLA0603WH can also inrush current protection applications by limiting inrush currents.
