The V420LC20AP is a highly reliable overvoltage protection component from Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) family and specifically belongs to Varistors & MOVs. It is designed to provide surge & transients overvoltage protection against surges causes due to lightning and power cross. This device helps to protect electronic equipment from surges as it can clamp voltage even when very high and surge current is present. It comes in a small case of DO-214 (20mm x 14mm). After the surge or transient is over, the device returns back to its normal operation.
The V420LC20AP is made from Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) materials and are specially designed to provide improved surge protection performance. The maximum working voltage of this component is 400V and its rated clamping voltage is 420V (eight-times the working voltage). It has a nonlinear leakage current, which helps the device to protect the connected equipment from over-voltage caused by lightning strikes, electrostatic discharges and other overvoltage transients.
The V420LC20AP has wide application in the automotive, computing, telecom and industrial sectors. It can be used to protect electrical loads from AC/DC inductive transients, followed by mains spikes, switching transients, land-line surges, AC/DC lightning surges, and Telecom inductive transients. The device successfully supports 10KA 8/20μs impulses as well.
This device also comes with a number of useful features such as low capacitance ratings, faster response time (10μs and 20μs for overvoltage protection respectively), and wide operating temperature range of -55°C to +150°C. It also offers superior clamping performance (400V working, 420V clamping) for overvoltage protection.
The working of V420LC20AP is quite straightforward - when an over-voltage transient or surge exceeds the nominal working voltage of the device, the nonlinear varistor material of the device starts conducting electric current to the ground thus providing overvoltage protection to the connected electronic system. During this process, the leakage current of the device reduces and it helps in clamping the voltage to a manageable level.
