TVS - Varistors, MOVs are electronic devices designed to protect other electronic devices from transient over-voltage or surges, either originating internally or from externally applied sources. One such device is the V470ZA05PX2855. This device is a low capacitance auto-line suppression (ALS) varistor with a dielectric strength of up to 24 kilo-volts and a silicon dioxide dielectric. The device is designed to guard sensitive circuit boards from voltage surges, power surges, static electricity discharge, electrostatic discharge (ESD) and cable-to-cable static-charge generation.The device is based on a metal oxide varistor material which produces a high conduction current with very low forward voltages. The device also features a very low leakage current, a very low dynamic resistance, a very wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +125°C) and a high surge energy handling capability. It is also very robust in terms of its ability to handle high temperatures and high-frequency ESD pulses.The working principle of V470ZA05PX2855 Varistors is quite simple. The device is designed with two metal contact plates bound together by a thin film of metal oxide varistor material. During normal operation, the current applied to the device flows through the metal oxide varistor material in the form of a DC current. However, when the voltage or current applied to the device exceeds the specified maximum-rated values, the metal oxide varistor material will start to dissipate the excess energy and the current will no longer flow through the device. This will effectively act as a protective barrier, protecting the other electronics in the system from any transient over-voltage or surge.The most important application of the V470ZA05PX2855 Varistor would be to protect sensitive circuit boards or other electronic devices from transient over-voltages or surges.
