As a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) device, V480LA40CP is widely used in various industries. Working Principle
V480LA40CP is a voltage-dependent multilayer varistor (MOV). When voltage exceeds its rated clamping voltage, a relatively low resistance is offered by it. Its internal structure contains a number of metal-oxide layers that are connected in series and parallel. Under normal state, each of the metal-oxide layers has a negative temperature resistance. When an overvoltage triggers the varistor, these layers can neutralize each other, resulting in low resistance and allowing the current to pass through. As the metal-oxide layers provide a large amount of stored energy, under certain conditions, the current flowing through V480LA40CP can reach an extremely high value, as high as 5kA. After the overvoltage is removed, V480LA40CP will quickly recover and protect the equipment from overvoltage.
At this point, it should be noted that V480LA40CP only works when its width and length of impedance are lower than the linear area of the device. In other words, if the current or voltage excursion exceeds the low carrying capacity level of the device, or if the width of the voltage curve is too wide, V480LA40CP will not be able to protect the circuit from overvoltage.
