Transient-voltage-surge suppressors, or TVSS, are designed to protect electronic equipment from excess voltage or electric surges arising from a variety of sources. Surge protection devices are designed to protect against the damaging effects of overvoltage transients and offer protection by diverting such excess voltages to ground. The V660LC100B is one such surge protection device from Littelfuse. It is a low-capacitance transient voltage suppressor (TVS) which is intended for protecting high-speed data interfaces such as ethernet, USB, and audio-visual interfaces.

The V660LC100B is designed to provide power line surge protection from high-frequency lightning, nuclear electromagnetic pulses (EMP), electrostatic discharge (ESD), and other overvoltage transients. It combines low capacitance and extremely fast response times with high surge capability and proven reliability, providing optimal protection for high-speed data lines against electrostatic discharge (ESD), lightning strikes, and other high-voltage spike sources. The device offers a unique low-capacitance value of only 0.65 pF, making it ideal for protecting high-speed applications such as Gigabit Ethernet, USB, HDMI, and other audio-video interfaces.

The V660LC100B is composed of two distinct parts: the body of the device and its protection element. The body consists of a metal case with two planar copper plates attached to it. The copper plates provide low inductance paths to help dissipate the electrical surge and provide a higher degree of protection. The protection element consists of two specialized metal-oxide varistors (MOVs). These MOVs are designed to absorb the electrical surge at the highest-powered ranges and move more quickly than other types of transient-voltage suppressor devices. MOVs are built of non-linear semiconductor materials, and the materials used in the V660LC100B are ZnO and Al2O3.

The V660LC100B is most typically used as a pluggable suppressor for USB ports, audio/video connectors, and other types of high-speed data connectors.
