The package can withstand 1000V reverse biased and 1500V forward biased voltages at low currents. This makes the V660LU10PX2855 an ideal choice for a variety of applications, including ultra-high input protection for sensitive communication systems, RF communications, wireless applications, TV antenna protection, industrial controls, consumer electronics, and automotive electronics.The varistor is essentially composed of two electrodes connected to a conducting medium (metal oxide) that is sandwiched between them. The conducting medium is a semi-conductor material, which exhibits nonlinear current-voltage characteristics. The V660LU10PX2855 varistor is designed to efficiently disperse current during transient and surge events. At normal operating conditions, it acts as a high-impedance device, allowing only very low levels of current to flow through it.When there is a surge or transient voltageevent, the device diverts the current away from the source by increasing the current flow within the device, allowing the signal circuit to remain free from damage. This surge current is then quickly dissipated as harmless heat energy.The device can tolerate overload voltages up to 12kV, and withstand operating temperatures as low as -55°C and as high as 125°C.
