V661NA34 Application Fields and Working PrincipleTVS or transient voltage suppressors, also known as varistors, MOVs, are essential components of electrical circuits. This type of voltage regulator uses a large resistor or metal oxide varistor (MOV) to provide a path to ground for any stray high voltage, and to limit the peak energy that may be transferred from one part of the circuit to another. The V661NA34 features two separate protectors, one for each line of the circuit, as well as two indicator diodes which will alert the user to any overvoltage situations.When the system passes the design current to the selected port, the current will flow from the positive port of the chosen protectors to the negative port of the same protectors. This process will create an electric field (EF) across the MOV, and this electric field will induce a negative charge into the MOV. This negative charge will reduce the voltage across the MOV, thus reducing the voltage to a safe level. Because the current is below a certain level, this will result in the MOV being self-restoring, and the protector will go back to its normal state.The V661NA34 protector works with lightning waveforms to prevent the transmission of overvoltage levels to downstream components. It uses a Thyristor Theory of Direct Protection (TTDP) and a Nonstop Voltage Suppression Technique, so it’s also called a NDV (Non-Direct Voltage) suppressor. When the overvoltage is detected in the input line, the controller will start to react quickly and clamp down the electric field so that it can be released safely via the external ground. The device features a unique K1of™ blocking technology that provides improved protection against extremely high voltages.The V661NA34 is recommended for use in communications equipment, including cable and satellite systems, as well as automotive and commercial systems.
