Working Principle

The thyristor module VCK105-12IO7 is a four-layer semiconductor structure comprising two n-type regions and two p-type regions, separated by an oxide layer. When a voltage is applied to the module, electrons from the negative terminal of the voltage source move into the n-type region and holes from the positive terminal move into the p-type region. At the same time, electrons move from the n-type region to the p-type region, forming a current flow between the electrodes. This is known as the forward bias condition and the device is said to be in the on-state.

When the voltage applied to the module is reversed or the forward current is switched off, the electrons in the n-type region are forced back to the negative terminal and the holes in the p-type region are forced back to the positive terminal. This is known as the reverse bias condition and the device is said to be in the off-state.
