TVS, or Transient Voltage Suppressors, are commonly referred to as transient voltage limiters (TVL), voltage varistors (VV), surge protectors, or transient absorbers. MOVs, or Metal Oxide Varistors, are a type of TVS that can protect circuits from overvoltage from transient pulses. As part of the family of TVS devices, the model VE13M03850K provides quality overvoltage protection for circuits to mitigate large transients.
The VE13M03850K is a component designed to prevent overvoltage surge or transients from entering components during operation. The VE13M03850K is made of a metal oxide varistor (MOV) which is a nonlinear device made of a ceramic material and metal particles. The metal or carbon particles are distributed throughout the ceramic material to form a nonlinear resistance component. When an external voltage is applied, the VE13M03850K creates a nonlinear voltage-current relationship which causes the MOV to absorb energy and reduce the applied voltage.
In addition to absorbing energy, the VE13M03850K’s MOV also acts as a temperature sensor which deactivates the device if it exceeds a certain temperature. This temperature sensor limits the amount of current that can flow through the MOV at any given time to protect the MOV from damage. It is also constructed with a dynamic characteristic which enables it to respond quickly to overvoltage and surges.
The VE13M03850K is a reliable and efficient device which offers excellent protection against electrical overvoltage and transient pulses. It supports multiple lines with 15,000W of peak pulse power dissipation and up to 20V of clamping voltage.
