VNP7N04 application field and working principle
The VNP7N04 is part of the range of power management integrated circuits (PMICs) manufactured by STMicroelectronics and is a member of the STMicroelectronics product family of Power Distribution Switches, Load Drivers. It is a low voltage, low quiescent current device and features a robust electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection and improved driving capabilities.The VNP7N04 is best suited for driving high-side loads such as motors, relays, and light emitting diodes (LEDs). It is also suitable for use in automotive and industrial applications as it is designed in a small package for compatibility and integration in space-constrained architectures. The VNP7N04 offers protection from voltage spikes exceeding 10V, and an ESD rating that exceeds the requirements of the IEC 61000-4-2 level 4 test. It also provides over-current and over-temperature protection for added safety. The VNP7N04 is a floating MOSFET driver with a low-voltage logic compatible input circuit that allows it to be driven from logic levels up to 5.5V. It features a high-side MOSFET switch with a ‘pull-up’ logic level input, which operates with an enable voltage ranging from 4.5V to 20V. It is also capable of supplying up to 1A of continuous current up to a maximum peak of 2A.The VNP7N04 driver has a fast rise-time (75ns typical) and a fast turn-on time (150ns typical) which allows it to drive a wide variety of loads with efficiency. In addition, the device includes an over-temperature safety mechanism which disables it if the junction temperature exceeds 150°C and automatically re-enables it once it has cooled down to a safe level.The VNP7N04 is available in a five volatile memory cell version (VNP7N05), which can be configured for different operating conditions as required. The VNP7N05 can be powered from an external supply voltage ranging from 4.5V to 20V, allowing it to operate in a wide range of applications.In summary, the VNP7N04 is a high-side MOSFET driver with a low-voltage logic compatible input circuit.
