Working Principle

The VRE210CA-5 PMIC Voltage Reference uses a 4-terminal circuit structure that has one pair of terminals regulating the input voltage and the other pair of terminals regulating the output voltage. The main components in the circuit design include a high-precision temperature-stable Voltage Reference, sophisticated temperature-stable compensation circuitry, current limit circuit, overload protection circuit, and a precise power FET switch circuit.

The Voltage Reference and the compensation circuitry are designed to provide precise and long-term voltage stability when the input and/or output voltages change due to temperature fluctuations. The current limit circuit detects when current levels increase beyond the desired set point, and it switches off the power FET switch to protect the internal circuitry from overloads. The overload protection circuit uses an opto-coupler to signal when an overload is detected, preventing any further damage to the circuitry.

The precise power FET switch circuit is designed to switch between two power modes (charge and discharge) in order to efficiently regulate the output voltage. In the charge mode, it supplies current to the output side of the circuit, whereas in the discharge mode, it removes current from the output side of the circuit. The precise power FET switch circuit also provides excellent current regulation on both the input and output sides of the circuit.
