A thyristor or silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) is an electronic semiconductor device with three or more terminals for controlling electrical current and voltage. Thyristor is a four-layer, three-terminal semiconductor device and its working principles are founded upon the principles of allowing and blocking the flow of current.The best-known application of SCR is a combination of a light-dependent resistor (LDR) and a thyristor, which acts as an automatic switch to turn on or off the lights or other electrical appliances when light is detected or not.
