Working Principle

VS-25FR40 is a fast recovery rectifier with a reversible voltage range from 25V to 40A. This device has the capability to handle highly transient currents while providing excellent reverse recovery performance. VS-25FR40 works in two distinct modes. When the anode is positive with respect to the cathode, the rectifying component conduct; and when the anode is negative with respect to the cathode, the rectifying component reverse-biased and does not conduct. The four legs of the VS-25FR40 are the anode, the cathode, the lead-out and the side lead-out. The anode and the cathode are connected to the power source and the output wires, respectively. The lead-out is the joint between the anode and the cathode and the side lead-out is the joint between the anode and the lead-out. When the anode is positive with respect to the cathode, the VS-25FR40 conducts in the forward direction and the current is limited by the specified peak forward current rating, typically 40A. When the anode is negative with respect to the cathode, the device reverse-biased and does not conduct. The forward voltage drop of the VS-25FR40 depends on the forward current and the silicon content. A higher silicon percentage tends to produce higher forward voltage drops.
