Thyristors - SCRs are a type of four-layered semiconductor device consisting of three PN junction terminals, referred to as the anode, gate and cathode. The term SCRs stands for silicon-controlled rectifier and describes a special type of thyristors capable of carrying high currents in one direction and switching relatively large voltage spikes. The SCR is commonly used as a switch in high voltage and power systems, as well as in a wide variety of industrial and consumer electronics applications.
VS-2N687 is a type of SCR device developed by Vishay Intertechnology and is primarily used for high current, industrial applications. The VS-2N687 delivers high performance when used as a DC power switch controlling up to 600 volts and 2 amps of current. This SCR is particularly noted for its impressive efficiency, with Gate Current (Ig(TO)) ratings of only 6 mA, which is ideal for low current applications. The device will remain in the on state until the end of the current pulse, or until the voltage has been removed.
