< html>< head>< title>Diodes - Rectifiers - Single< body>< h2>VS-90SQ045 Application Field and Working Principle< p>The VS-90SQ045 is a short reverse time, high-reliability and low-loss single diode rectifier. It is typically used as an interstage rectifier in power supplies, welding machines and DC-DC converters. It is also widely used in photocopier, microwave oven and UPS systems.

< p>The VS-90SQ045 is an axial-leaded diode with a maximum reverse repeated peak current of 80A, a maximum steady-state peak current of 90A and a maximum forward voltage drop of 0.84V. It has very good stability against process and temperature variations and can be operated at -40℃ to 125℃ without any significant variation in performance.

< p>The working principle of the VS-90SQ045 is based on the rectifying action of its p–n junction. When the anode is positive with respect to the cathode, it forms a forward diode biased junction and the diode starts to conduct. The flow of current is from the anode to the cathode in the forward biased mode.

< p>As the forward current increases, a counter EMF is induced in the diode due to its anode – cathode voltage drops. This voltage drops is called the forward voltage drop and it remains almost constant in the conduction region of the diode.

< p>When the anode is negative with respect to the cathode, the base – emitter junction is reverse biased and will not conduct. In this state, the diode is said to be in the reverse blocking region. This reverse blocking action helps in avoiding current flow in the reverse direction when a voltage is applied across the diode.

< p>The VS-90SQ045 is also designed to provide very good transient surge performance. It is capable of handling very high inrush currents without any significant variation in its forward voltage drop or temperature ratings.
