Working Principle of VS-SD1100C16L

VS-SD1100C16L operats with a multi-layer PNPN schottky process to convert alternating current (AC) to DC. This technology not only increases the efficiency of the device but also allows faster switch-on and switch-off times.

The working of the device depends upon the ability of the Schottky Diode to block reverse current. The electrons of the AC current flow through the diode in one direction only, and due to the potential barrier created by the diode, the current does not flow in the reverse direction. Hence DC current is obtained after rectification.

The working of VS-SD1100C16L can be further divided into three stages, namely, forward conduction, reverse blocking, and reverse recovery.

In the forward conduction stage, a forward current is supplied across the P-N junction that activates it. If the current is excessive it can produce a negative voltage across the diode.

In the reverse-blocking stage, the diode is electrically reversed to block current conduction. If the current is kept negative the diode will remain reversed and prevents current flow in the reverse direction.

In the reverse-recovery stage, the diode is brought to its original state after the current stops.
