Thyristors - SCRs

A thyristor, or a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR), is a four terminally controlled semiconductor device, with three junctions and four layers of alternating P-type and N-type materials. In its off state, the thyristor acts like an open switch, not allowing current to flow, but when a control signal is applied across the two main terminals, the thyristor acts like a closed switch, allowing current to pass through from the anode to the cathode. As such, SCRs are mainly used for controlling the flow of power, which can be either AC or DC, from a variety of power sources.

The VS-ST083S10PFK2 thyristor is a four-terminal, bidirectional, symmetric SCR, with a current rating of 8A and a voltage rating of 800V. Application Field and Working Principle

The VS-ST083S10PFK2 can operate at temperatures between -40°C and 150°C, enabling it to operate in a wide range of environments. The device also has a built-in snubber circuit for noise suppression, and a surge absorber for protection against overvoltage.
