It contains two J-E junctions, which are connected in series. This device is triggered by the gate voltage which produces a current that causes the two J-E junctions to start forward conducting. When this thyristor is off, it acts as a reverse biased diode and no current can flow through it. When it is turned on, it works as an SCR and allows electrons to move through it in either direction when it is connected to an external circuit.The voltage across the thyristor is limited by the device\'s "breakover" voltage, which is the minimum voltage that needs to be applied across the terminals in order for the device to begin conducting current. When the voltage exceeds this breakover voltage, the current flow increases exponentially and the device begins conducting.The gate trigger voltage applied to the device controls the breakover voltage, allowing the user to control the amount of current flowing through the device. The gate voltage also controls the amount of time that the thyristor spends in the on-state before it automatically switches off due to time-dependent conduction.
