1. Describe
The VSC8504XKS-05 is a low-power, quad-port Gigabit Ethernet transceiver with four SerDes interfaces for quad-port dual-media functionality. It also includes an integrated four-port 2-wire serial multiplexer (MUX) for controlling SFP or PoE modules. It features low electromagnetic interference (EMI) line drivers and integrated line-side termination resistors to save power and printed circuit board (PCB) space. The VSC8504XKS-05 includes dual recovered clock outputs to support Synchronous Ethernet applications. A programmable clock squelch control is included to suppress unwanted clock propagation and help prevent timing loops. The VSC8504XKS-05 also supports a ring resiliency feature that allows the PHY port of a 1000BASE-T connection to switch between master and slave timing without interrupting the 1000BASE-T link. The VSC8504XKS-05 uses Microsemi's EcoEthernet v2.0 PHY technology, which supports energy-efficient features such as Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE), ActiPHY link downstream energy saving, and PerfectReach which adjusts power based on cable length. It also supports fully optimized power consumption at all link speeds. Microsemi's mixed-signal and digital signal processing (DSP) architecture is VSC8504XKS-05, which ensures robust performance even under adverse environmental conditions. It supports half-duplex and full-duplex 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T communication speeds over Category 5 (Cat5) unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cables over distances of more than 100 meters for NEXT, FEXT, echo and other types of ambient and system electrical noise. The device also supports four dual media ports and can support up to four 100BASE-FX, 1000BASE-X fiber optic and/or tri-speed copper SFPs.
