1. Product overview
The VSC8514XMK-03 device is a low-power Gigabit Ethernet transceiver with a copper media interface. It features low electromagnetic interference (EMI) line drivers and integrated line-side termination resistors to save power and printed circuit board (PCB) space. The VSC8514XMK-03 devices include Ring Resiliency™, which allows the PHY port to switch between master and slave clock references without link loss in 1000BASE-T mode. The VSC8514XMK-03 device includes Microsemi's EcoEthernet™ 2.0 technology to support power saving Ethernet and power saving features reduce power consumption based on link status and cable distance. The VSC8514XMK- 03 device uses Microsemi's mixed-signal and digital signal processing (DSP) architecture to ensure robust performance even under adverse environmental conditions. It supports half-duplex and full-duplex 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 1000BASE-T communication speeds exceeding Category 5 (Cat5) unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable for distances greater than 100 meters, with excellent tolerance to NEXT, FEXT, echo and other types of ambient environments and systems electronic noise. The VSC8514 device also includes fast link failure indication for high availability networks. Fast Link Fault Indication identifies the onset of a link fault in typically less than 1 ms, exceeding the IEEE 802.3 standard requirement of 750 ms ±10 ms (Link Master).
