The VSKD250-04 has two basic applications fields. This enables the device to reject AC signals and is used for either AC phase control or DC current control.
The working principle of the VSKD250-04 is founded in the reverse-biased junction theory of the metal-oxide varistor, which when exposed to a high reverse biased potential is characterized by a high electric field across the junction. In the case of the VSKD250-04, the electric field is applied by the rectifier stacks, which will open the BRE position (reverse biased electric field) when the rectifier stacks are turned on and off rapidly. This creates a voltage drop across the junction, which allows a continuous current to flow in one direction and not the other. Thus, allowing the VSKD250-04 to function as a rectifier.
The VSKD250-04 rectifier array is connected directly to the input power source, usually through the use of a transformer, enabling the device to effectively perform rectification. The device also includes an integrated power resistor, which provides a short-circuit protection feature, preventing the overcurrent from causing damage to the rectifier array. In addition, the device also includes two integrated varistors, controlling the breakdown voltage of the diode. The integrated varistors are designed to reduce the reverse voltage and dissipate electronic noise, contributing to the overall reliability of the device.
