CODECs, also known as ‘Coded Orthogonal Digital Encoders’, are digital devices used to encode clear information into digital format. They provide an effective way to convert digital signals into digital data, thereby helping to reduce bandwidth usage, improve quality and facilitate efficient transmission of data. A CODEC is usually composed of an encoder, a decoder, and associated control electronics.

The W6810ISG is a popular integrated codec designed specifically for the ARM Cortex-M architecture. It contains an embedded control unit, CODEC control registers, transcoding logic, operating clocks, clock generators and supporting circuitry.

This integrated circuit is designed for applications such as audio/video transmission, audio/video switching, VoIP and data playback. It provides an efficient and cost-effective solution for interconnectivity between digital audio devices such as microphones, receivers, amplifiers and consumer digital audio peripherals such as CD and DVD players.

The W6810ISG has an efficient design which allows it to provide high-quality audio reproduction without sacrificing audio fidelity. The integrated codec supports signal sampling rate up to 16 kHz, which is capable of delivering clear audio signal with low noise. It also supports 24-bit audio, enabling more accurate signal processing and improved signal-to-noise ratio performance.

The W6810ISG contains six components that control the operation of the IC. These components include an Address Generation Unit (AGU), a Power Supply Unit (PSU), a Baseband Unit (BBU), a Codec Control Register (CCR), a Codec Status Register (CSR), and an Audio Processor Unit (APU).

The AGU is responsible for generating the address for each sample and for switching the audio source signals. The APU handles various signal processing tasks such as synthesis, filtering, channel-mixing, and volume control.

The PSU and BBU are responsible for handling power control and management of the different circuit blocks. The CCR is responsible for configuring the W6810ISG’s operation while the CSR provides status information regarding the codec’s operations.

The W6810ISG provides several features to enhance its performance. These features include an adjustable headphone amplifier, power shutdown mode, gain compensation, four-channel output routing, digital microphone support, and temperature compensation.

The integrated codec also provides a flexible audio data interface that enables the connection of different peripheral devices such as microphones, speakers, and digital audio sources. It supports a wide range of formats such as 16-bit/44.1 kHz PCM, 16-bit/48kHz PCM, and 24-bit/48kHz PCM.
