The W83195CG-416 is a high-performance clock generator integrated circuit that is particularly useful in applications demanding clock and timing accuracy. Its features are well suited to a broad range of applications, including those where jitter, rise and fall times, skew, and maximum data rates have to be strictly maintained.
The purpose of the W83195CG-416 is to generate precision clocks and to provide system timing solutions. Typical applications include Ethernet switching and server blades, telecommunications systems, high-speed disk drives, and digital video/audio systems.
Built on Oricom’s advanced 90nm wiring process, the W83195CG-416 is designed to generate four differential outputs and two single-ended outputs with minimal jitter and low power consumption. It is capable of supporting multiple reference sources and the parameters of the generated clock output frequencies can be programmed through the SPI serial port or chip select pin.
The W83195CG-416 uses an internal low-noise PLL and several reference clocks to generate a desired output clock with an adjustable frequency, duty cycle, and skew. The clock generator has an internal voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) that is used to generate an output clock. The VCO operates in two different modes (low-frequency mode and high-frequency mode). In the low-frequency mode, the VCO can generate frequencies up to 2933MHz while in the high-frequency mode, it can generate frequencies up to 24999MHz.
The W83195CG-416 has a wide range of outputs that are driven directly off the PLL, including 4 differential outputs and 2 single-ended outputs (LVCMOS or LVDS compatible). The outputs can be programmed by the SPI serial bus and/or the chip select pin. Additionally, the chip select pin and the clock enable/capture pin can be used to program the output times and delay values of the clock signals.
In addition to its clock generation capabilities, the W83195CG-416 also supports several timing functions, including adjustable skew and cycle-by-cycle delay. The adjustable skew allows for the adjustment of the relative timing of signals on the same VCO, while the cycle-by-cycle delay enables two different signals to be delayed in relation to each other.
The W83195CG-416 is well suited for applications that require extremely accurate clock and timing signals. It can also be used in applications such as high-speed disk drives, telecommunications systems, Ethernet switching and server blades, and digital video and audio systems.
