PMIC - Thermal Management
The W83782G is a multifunctional System Management IC for portable computers. It provides a complete thermal management solution for laptop applications. The chip integrates a primary voltage regulator, 3-phase thermal management and power sequencing. It is designed to provide maximum heat dissipation from mobile applications, while maintaining energy efficiency, thermal management and reliable power supply.
Application Field:The W83782G is suitable for a wide range of portable computer designs, such as laptop and tablet PCs, convertibles, ultra-slims and ruggedized laptops. It is also suitable for portable tablets, gaming consoles, digital cameras, PDAs, etc. The chip operates with an advanced thermal management hardware which is designed to provide improved thermal performance while extending system life. It can be used in mobile applications such as automotive, industrial, and medical applications, as it features automatic thermal shutdown and protection features.
Working Principle:The W83782G is designed to provide a complete thermal management solution for laptop applications. It features a primary voltage regulator, 3-phase thermal management and power sequencing. The chip features an advanced thermal architecture featuring an advanced thermal sensor array which monitors the ambient temperature and adjusts the fan speed. The thermal sensor can detect temperatures from -40 to 125°C. The thermal sensor array is configurable and can be customized to detect various temperature thresholds. In addition, the W83782G includes external temperature sensors for additional application flexibility. The 3-phase system is designed to provide optimum thermal performance at lower power consumption. The power sequencing system enables efficient control of the CPU, memory, I/O and secondary power supplies. The power sequencing system is designed to provide improved fuel efficiency, increased battery run-time and improved thermal performance.
The W83782G features a configurable protection circuit which can detect and reduce over-temperature. The over-temperature protection features include thermal trip, short-circuit and over-load protection. This ensures the efficient operation of the processor and also prevents excessive heat dissipation. The chip also incorporates Power On Detection and Supervisory functions. It can detect power on, power failure and over-voltage conditions. This ensures reliable and safe system operation.
In addition, the W83782G features a high-current voltage regulator which can provide up to 5 Amps in a small space.
