Introduction:

WDS3N is a low cost, high power and highly integrated evaluation and demonstration board designed mainly for automotive test, debugging, and measurement application field. This board integrates a wide range of hardware and software, enabling to rapidly evaluate, debug and create new prototypes for automotive products. WDS3N is a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) board which combines the performance of a real-time system with the flexibility of digital signal processing (DSP) and analog I/O for customer specific applications with maximum power savings.

Features:

The WDS3N features include several I/O expansion slots to add specialized sensors and other evaluation boards or custom designed I/O boards. It also contains three bus expansion connectors that allow for the integration of additional peripheral boards such as advanced radio frequency and wireless communication devices. In addition, the WDS3N is designed to be an connectivity platform for I/O devices such as USB, CAN, Ethernet and etc.

WDS3N can be used for a variety of automotive applications ranging from in-car entertainment systems, vehicle control systems, embedded navigation systems, safety systems, sensor deployments, diagnostic power management, and networking. Working Principle:

The WDS3N works on the principle of completing the I/O Operation by correlating each I/O’s reading with its associated functions. The WDS3N evaluation board comprises of multiple sets of I/O connectors to help establish communication with the sensors, power I/O and other modules. On the other hand, the Ethernet port of the board is used to connect to a laptop computer, or other devices for debugging and programming. WDS3N boards have a National Instruments’ Analog I/O Unit (AIU) embedded within which facilitates the I/O communication.The WDS3N board also contains a digital signal processor (SPU). This component processes the data gathered from the analog I/O unit and powers the board. In addition, it also permits the WDS3N board to connect with other peripherals such as USB, CAN, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.The power of the WDS3N board is primarily derived from the I2C bus. The I2C bus is a standard protocol that is used to connect the processor, sensors, and other I/O devices. The purpose of this bus is to provide bidirectional communication between the devices and the processor. This bus is also used to set the parameters for the WDS3N board such as the I/O registers, the logic levels, and the power requirements.
