Working Principle
The X1286V14T1 is an intelligent real-time clock based on a 32.768 kHz quartz crystal. The quartz crystal oscillates at a constant frequency which is then divided down to 1 Hz by an internal divider circuit. The 1 Hz signal is used to drive the clock and calendar functions and provide the flags for synchronization and other features.
The oscillator is temperature compensated to achieve better accuracy and greater stability over a wide temperature range. The X1286V14T1 also provides a power-saving mode that reduces power consumption to a minimum while still providing accurate timekeeping. This feature allows the device to be used in battery-powered applications.
