The X40410S8-A is a high accuracy, low power, 3-terminal supervisor device designed to monitor power supply signals and reset a system when the voltage drops below preset thresholds. Fault/reset signal indicators signal when either the fault or reset input signals reach their active level. The X40410S8-A can also be used as a watchdog timer for automatic system restart and for signal detection such as system power up or brown-out event.
The X40410S8-A is suitable for microputers and DSP application fields, It can be used with varying applications including embedded controllers, consumer and industrial systems. Applications requiring multiple monitored power supply voltages, from 3.3V to 27V, can benefit from the X40410S8-A supervisor. The device is capable of monitoring a single power supply or multiple power supplies with its low minimum reset voltage threshold of 0.7V.
The X40410S8-A is based on advanced Supervisory IC technology to provide accuracy and reliability. The internal reset circuit keeps monitoring the power supply voltage and has a specified reset assertion threshold (Vtr) and reset de-assertion threshold (Vr). It is essential that the proper value of the power supply voltage is set at the Vtr level so that the circuit is guaranteed to assert the reset signal before a system malfunction can occur.
The X40410S8-A has an adjustable Vtr level and an adjustable timeout time. The Vtr is usually set between 0.7V and 5.5V. Depending on the application, higher or lower Vtr levels can be set. Adjustment of the timeout time is also available and it is usually set between 1ms and 16 s. The time-out time is the time when the reset signal is de-asserted following a reset assertion and is measured from the initial falling edge of VCC. The device also supports a manual reset input.
The X40410S8-A also implements power up reset (POR) circuit to control the reset signal output when the power supply is applied or the power supply voltage is stabilized in the preset range. The working principle of this POR circuit is to keep the reset output LOW while the voltage of VCC is in a certain rising range within the given detection window. This detection window is defined as an interval, which has an upper threshold (Vpu) and a lower threshold (Vpd). Once VCC crosses the Vpu, the reset output will be released.
The X40410S8-A has built-in power saving features to extend its battery life. The device can enter a low power, active-hibernate mode when the fault/reset signal is active and the input voltage drops to below 2.2V. It also has a sleep mode which is activated when the fault/reset signal is inactive and the input voltage decreases below 2.2V. This sleep mode consumes only 1μA less than the active-idle mode and reduces the power consumption by more than 99%.
