PMIC - Supervisors
XC6122A648ER-G is a robust power supervisor IC designed especially for the telecommunications marketplace and general applications where reliable power regulation and safety functions are needed. It ensures that the 3.3 V and 5 V supply rails are maintained within a reasonable range in all conditions of environmental change and device aging. The XC6122A648ER-G integrates functions such as overvoltage and undervoltage monitoring, power-on reset (POR), power-fail warning (PFW), power supply switching, power-down reset, watchdog and time base for system event control.
Application Fields
The XC6122A648ER-G is suitable for various power applications where cut power supply voltage needs to be monitored to avoid possible damages such as those caused by overvoltage, if used in the PC and mobile applications. Its dedicated power-supply-switching pin and low level of quiescent current make XC6122A648ER-G a power ideal solution for power management in embedded processors, including ARM, Omnivision and Skyworks, as well as in consumer products and consumer electronic equipment.
Working Principle
The XC6122A648ER-G is designed to monitor the power supplies’ voltage level and make sure that they do not go beyond the specified level. The overvoltage detector circuit is designed such that when the supply voltage goes above the specified level, an output signal is generated, signaling for power control module to shutdown the offending voltage level. The overvoltage detector circuit also triggers a reset pin in order to ensure an orderly shutdown of the system. In addition to overvoltage protection, XC6122A648ER-G also provides protection from undervoltage conditions. If the voltage drops below a threshold, it will trigger the power on reset circuit and the reset pin, signaling for the power control module to power back up the system.
The XC6122A648ER-G also includes a power-fail warning (PFW) circuit. The PFW circuit monitors the regulated output(s) and, if it senses a sharp voltage drop or increase, it indicates, via an output pin, that the power system requires attention. This can be used to indicate a low battery warning or to alert the system of an imminent power failure. Additionally, the XC6122A648ER-G features a watchdog timer, which can be used to set a fixed time limit for a power-down event. Furthermore, the XC6122A648ER-G can be used as a time base for system event control.
Conclusion
The XC6122A648ER-G is an advanced, robust power supervisor IC designed especially for the telecommunications marketplace. Its advanced features such as overvoltage detection, power-on reset, power-fail warning, power supply switching and watchdog make it can a perfect fit for applications that require reliable and safe power regulation.
