In recent years, RF Evaluation and Development Kits, Boards, have become increasingly popular as RF engineers are continually challenged with the need to test, adjust, and validate new and existing RF systems. XKB2-AT-WWC is one such Evaluation and Development Kit. It is a multi-frequency radio system designed to provide a user friendly, cost-effective platform for the development and testing of RF components and systems.

The XKB2-AT-WWC’s application field includes integration of an RF system, radio link test and verification, signal reception and transmission validation, modulation and demodulation testing, RF performance tuning, frequency hopping capability, and automatic frequency control. The kit is also able to transmit user-defined payloads and monitor statistics such as power level, frequency, modulation, and link protocol.

The XKB2-AT-WWC has a unique ability to provide the user a wide range of unique validation testing and tuning features as opposed to just control and monitoring functions. The system is able to scan and analyze RF spectrum information, measure received signal strength, demodulate data, and even prepare and generate wideband RF signals.

The XKB2-AT-WWC is equipped with a host of input and output ports. These include antenna port, general purpose input/output port, universal serial bus (USB) port, sound card port, video/audio port, network port, and analog and digital output ports. The communication ports provide for a wide range of communication protocols such as TDMA, CDMA, OFDM, and MIMO.

The working principle of the XKB2-AT-WWC is based on a variety of signal processing and data analysis techniques. The user typically loads up “building blocks”, known as macros, to interact with the system and utilize its capabilities. The most basic macros enable the user to measure receive power level, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), overruns, and other RF performance parameters. More advanced macros can be used for data transmission and reception, frequency hopping, phase coherent measurements, and measurements of modulation quality.
