Accelerometers are widely used in motion sensing applications. They detect changes in linear and angular acceleration, including vibrations in machines, airdropped objects and spacecrafts, among many other scenarios. The XL203A-3486 is a component in the larger family of MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) accelerometers designed for a host of applications.
The XL203A-3486 is a three-axis, low-noise MEMS accelerometer with an I²C digital output. The XL203A-3486 accelerometer works by measuring the distortion forces that occur when an increasing linear or angular velocity is applied. When the accelerometer is subjected to a linear or angular acceleration, the inertia plate will apply a resulting force to the membrane. This force is then detected by one or more piezoresistors that are integrated into the MEMS accelerometer chip.
