The XR17C154CV-F is an interface device which belongs to the UARTs (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) family. It is primarily used to interface to and from a wide variety of peripherals. It consists of two independent Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) channels and can transmit and receive data at rates of up to 1.5Mbps. Its main feature is the Operating Voltage (VCC) within the range of 1.8V to 5.5V. Both the channels can be synchronised with each other and can be used in Full or Half Duplex operations.

The TXR, RXR and SCR pins are connected through I/O Port Expanders to the Microcontroller.

The working principle of the XR17C154CV-F is simple. The Microcontroller uses a timer to generate the Clock signal. This Clock signal is used to sample the serial data bit on the RXR at the four corners of its frequency. These four corners of frequency are known as the Start, Stop, Below and above sampling points. A comparison is then carried out between the serial data bit sampled and the predefined bit pattern within the XR17C154CV-F. If the sampled data is in accordance with the bit pattern, then it is accepted and transmitted; otherwise, it is rejected.

The RXR output is fed to the Microcontroller which is used to compare the sampled data with the predefined bit pattern. If the data doesn\'t match the bit pattern, then a NACK (Negative Acknowledgement) is sent. This NACK can be used to request the XR17C154CV-F to retransmit the data or to resynchronise the devices.

The XR17C154CV-F uses UARTs as an interface between the Microcontroller and devices like printers, displays, etc. It is widely used in different kinds of applications as it is cost effective and is easy to use. It has a wide operating voltage range (1.8V to 5.5V) and provides a higher throughput than the traditional Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
