The XRP6670EVB is a 68-pin Evaluation Board (EVB) designed for demonstrating and evaluating the performance of Texas Instrument\'s XRP66x family of low-cost, high-efficiency, monolithic, integrated, constant-frequency, flyback switching regulator components. It is classified as Evaluation Boards- DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS.The XRP6670EVB provides space for an XRP66x component as well as for a variety of common off-the-shelf microcontrollers (MCUs) and Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs). It has an external 120-Vac or 230-Vac AC input, an isolated 5-V output, and various measurement points that allow for easy evaluation of the device’s performance and characteristics. The XRP66x family of components is based on a two-stage architecture, consisting of a dedicated primary-side controller and a secondary-side synchronous rectifier. The XRP66uv device includes a secondary-side reference for the synchronous rectifier, which provides current-mode control of the synchronous rectifier switch and allows for a wide range of features and functions. It is ideal for a variety of offline AC-DC power supply designs.The evaluation board is designed as an isolated, unregulated, flyback switching regulator with a single primary switch and a single secondary-side rectifier. It includes various features that enable the user to easily evaluate the performance and features of the XRP66x family of devices. It has an open-air design that makes it easy to inspect for application-specific components. The various power components including the switching MOSFETs, the rectifier diode, and the EMI filtering components are also easily accessible for inspection and modification.The AC input is connected to a full-bridged rectifier, a Y-capacitor, and an EMI filter network. The secondary-side synchronous rectifier is connected to the higher voltage side of the transformer and is driven by the XRP66x controller. The output voltage is set by adjusting the voltage divider resistors connected to the XRP66x fault sense pin. The primary switch, secondary synchronous rectifier and transformer form the main switching section of the XRP6670EVB. The combination of these components results in a flyback AC-DC power supply design, which is the most commonly used topology for offline power supplies. The transformer and the main power components have been carefully tuned to the application, resulting in a design with low output voltage ripple and high efficiency. The XRP66x family of components can be used for a variety of applications, including PC power supplies, PDA power supplies, consumer electronics, metering, and lighting. The XRP6670EVB can be used to evaluate the XRP66x family of components and make sure that the components perform as expected in the application.
