Application Field of YNC12S20-D

YNC12S20-D is a compact and high performance Bi-directional DC-DC converter with two independent isolated DC sources. It is applicable to any battery, fuel cell or DC power source and provides a single SMPS-type output for various isolated traction, automotive and electronics current margin applications. This converter is widely used in a variety of fields including Automotive, Industrial Automation, Network Servers/Storage Servers, Industrial Automation and Communications Systems.

Working Principle of YNC12S20-D

YNC12S20-D converts the input DC power into a single output SMPS-type voltage. The working principle is based on the voltage gap between two isolated DC sources. The device is composed of an input DC source (Vin), an output switching circuit (Vout), and a control circuit (CTRL). The output voltage is set by the voltage gap between Vic and VOS, and the degree of the voltage gap is proportional to the degree of output current. When Vin is higher than the preset output voltage of Vout, it will be discharging. When Vin is lower than Vout, it will be charging.

The voltage gap between Vic and VOS depends on the output current and is affected by two parameters: the output current and the speed of the switching circuit. When the output current increases, the voltage gap increases, which makes Vic higher and Vout lower. Similarly, when the speed of the switching circuit increases, the voltage gap increases, and again, Vic is higher and Vout lower. On the other hand, when the speed of the switching circuit decreases, Vic will be lower and Vout higher.

The current sensing circuit, or CTX, senses the output current and then adjusts the output voltage, by controlling the switching speed, accordingly. This helps in providing accurate output voltage control. The output voltage is adjusted to ensure that the current limit is not exceeded. The voltage gap between Vic and VOS is determined by the difference between the current sense voltage (CTX) and the output voltage. The voltage reference is provided by an external resistor to ensure the accuracy of the output voltage.

YNC12S20-D also includes an input current limit circuit in order to protect the components from over current. The current limit circuit senses the input current and adjusts the output voltage accordingly, so as to not exceed the maximum input current. In addition, the device protects the output voltage from excessive current flow, by shorting the output voltage whenever the output current exceeds the preset current limit.

In summary, YNC12S20-D consists of an input DC source, an output switching circuit, a control circuit and an input current limit circuit that work together to ensure a high power density, high efficiency, high reliability and accurate output voltage control.
