PTC Resettable Fuses
PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Resettable Fuses are temperature-dependent devices which open an electrical circuit when it has received too much electrical energy. YQS8066, a most commonly used resettable fuse, has a wide application field and works with well-defined principles.Application Field
YQS8066 Resettable Fuses, as a significant part in the network protection, are widely used in computers, communication equipment, medical instruments, consumer electronics, electrical equipment and other electronic fields. It applies to different electronic devices for circuit protection from overload and short-circuit damage. It is also used to protect the components from burning out due to over-current.Working Principle
YQS8066 Resettable Fuses are made up of polymeric materials, such as polyethlene or polyvinyl chloride, which gradually increase in resistance as the temperature rises. According to the temperature-sensitive characteristic, the YQS8066 Resettable Fuses can automatically interrupt the circuit when the temperature reaches a critical value, determined by the fusion material itself.When a short circuit or over-current occurs, the fuse works as a current limiting element. The current tries to flow through the fuse but the heat generated by the current results in the increase of temperature and hence resistance. The fuses are designed to reach its maximum rated current at a specific temperature. When the current is higher than the rated continuous current, the temperature increase becomes dangerously high, triggering the fuse and open the circuit.Advantages
One significant advantage of YQS8066 Resettable Fuses is its re-settable features. Typical conventional fuse has to be replaced for resetting. However, this does not apply to PTC Resettable Fuses, as its resistance change with temperature. When the circuit is cooled, its temperature dependent material decreases and the original state of the fuse is re-established.In addition, these fuses have good chemical and mechanical properties. They are resistant to shock and vibration, and they have good corrosion resistance. They provide a fail-safe way of operation.
