Working Principle

The YS5677 PTC Resettable Fuse is based on the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect. PTC material has a characteristic that its resistance increases sharply when the material’s temperature rises. The YS5677 consists of two uniquely designed electrodes between a PTC element. When the circuit current exceeds its rated value, it acts as a heating element to rapidly increase the temperature of the PTC material, The PTC material will reach its Curie point and its resistance will drastically increase to its switching point. This rapid increase in resistance will quickly reduce the circuit\'s current to a safe level and thus protect the circuit. Once the temperature of the PTC drops back to normal, its resistance will return to its original state. This resettable function allows the circuit to be re-energized after repair.
