Common Mode Chokes are used primarily for filtering out common mode noise in electronics applications. They are composed of two or more coils and have a ferrite core. As an individual coil is energized current passes through it in one direction and then back in the opposite direction, this is referred to as differential current. However, some of the current may pass through the two coils simultaneously in the same direction, this is referred to as common mode current. As the common mode current travels through the two coils it induces an opposing voltage equal to the same amount of current due to Faraday’s law of induction. This opposing voltage is what is being filtered out, known as common mode noise.Z144E Common Mode Chokes are one of the more popular common mode chokes used in many applications due to their size and efficient noise suppression. They are made of electromagnetic metal alloy cores with two independent windings. The core material provides greater power handling when compared to ferrite core chokes. The Z144E Common Mode Choke can operate with AC and DC signals, as well as high frequency signals. The frequency range of the Z144E extends up to 5MHz, resulting in effective common mode noise suppression. The Z144E is ideal for use in applications with high frequency signals such as in transponders, communications, and RF receivers. The Z144E is also effective in suppressing pulsed noise, from sources such as switch mode power supplies. The working principle of the Z144E Common Mode Choke is quite simple. The two independent windings are tightly wound around a metal alloy core and insulated from each other. When a differential current passes through them in opposition, the two windings create an electromagnetic field that opposes any common mode current. This opposition results in the common mode current flowing in the opposite direction to that of the differential current, reducing the amount of common mode noise in the equipment. The Z144E is one of the most efficient and reliable common mode chokes to effectively reduce common mode noise in circuits. It is highly recommended when dealing with systems that are sensitive to this kind of noise, as it is a reliable solution for suppressing common mode noise. It can be used in both AC and DC circuits, as well as high frequency signals, making it a highly versatile and cost effective solution. Additionally, the Z144E has a wide operating frequency range, making it suitable for use in a variety of different applications.
