ZL50118GAG is an integrated circuit designed to help simplify physical-layer implementation of the Gigabit Ethernet (1 GigE) communication interface. This integrated circuit contains both physical layer (PHY) and transceiver layer functions, combines all physical-layer elements of Ethernet within a single IC package, and simplifies the system design process and speeds up time-to-market. The ZL50118GAG is suitable for 1GHz data rate applications and reduces the costs of system development and deployment.

Application Field

The ZL50118GAG is used in many applications, including high-speed backplane, front-panel, and copper cables for enterprise, home, industrial, and automotive Ethernet applications. The Integrated Circuit (IC) supports popular Gigabit Ethernet and Twisted Pair EEE (Ethernet Expansion Bus) MAC and PHY layers, allowing simple and fast system development. Working Principle

The ZL50118GAG integrates the functions of the physical layer, data link layer, and Media Access Control (MAC) into a single integrated circuit. The device supports the traditional 1000Base-T, 100Base-TX, and 10Base-T interface standards, as well as newer SGMII-compliant 1G Ethernet and 1000Base-X.

The PHY layer of the IC supports 10/100/1000Mbps auto-negotiation, low-power (LPL) mode, and wake-on-LAN (WoL) features. The integrated twister-pair equalizer and energy detect performs data rate auto-negotiation. The PHY also supports dual-speed SerDes technology that allows the IC to support different speeds for different link configurations.

The PHY layer also supports MIB registers for full statistical monitoring of the network connection, as well as error monitoring. The integrated MAC module supports advanced CSMA/CD media access protocol, collision detection, and arbitration algorithms. It also supports autonegotiation, broadcast frames, and IEEE-type2 frame formats.

The ZL50118GAG also features a host interface to provide a serial or parallel interface to connect to a host or microcontroller. This interface supports a number of control and status registers that allow the IC to be managed by the host or microcontroller. The IC also features an on-chip temperature compensated oscillator (TCXO) that allows low-voltage operation.
