The ZPSD301B-70J, or short “ZPSD”, is a direct-drive brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive developed by Swiss company Zimmer & Peacock (Z&P). It is one of the latest in a line of highly reliable and innovative BLDC motor designs from Z&P, and is most commonly used in process automation and robotics.
The ZPSD is built on a high-efficiency, two-in-one integrated design which combines both the motor control electronics and the power supply in a single, space-saving package. Operating on a wide range of AC and DC voltage sources, the ZPSD has the ability to operate at extreme temperature and humidity levels and has a wide selection of available interfaces.
At its core, the ZPSD operates on a Closed-Loop Field-Oriented Control (FOC) system which is a multi-axis, electronic control system used to control and synchronize the motions of multiple axes in robotics and other industrial applications. The FOC system is responsible for controlling the speed, torque and position of the motor, as well as regulating the current and voltage needed to power it.
The drive’s FOC system utilizes a host of sensors to measure the motor’s speed and position, as well as track the currents, voltages and temperatures of the motor. All of this feedback data is then processed and used to correct the motor’s position in real time. This provides for highly precise motion control and coordination of multiple axes.
The ZPSD is a highly customizable motor drive which can be configured with a wide array of I/O and communication options. Available I/O options include pulse handling, pulse with direction, quadrature encoder, analog signal and digital signal. Communication options include RS-232, RS-485, USB, Ethernet, DeviceNet, EtherCAT and Modbus.
The ZPSD is an advanced and highly reliable motor drive which is well suited for a variety of process automation and robotics applications. It is well suited for applications that require precise motion control, synchronization of multiple axes, and reliable operation in extreme environments.
