L78M09CV is a 9-volt regulator IC that provides a regulated output with low output noise and low drop out voltage. It has the flexibility of being able to be used for a wide variety of high current applications. The L78M09CV has a maximum output current of 3A and a maximum power dissipated of 40W.

The L78M09CV is a three-terminal positive adjustable voltage regulator. It is designed to provide a highly regulated output voltage, up to 12V, with a minimum of external components. The L78M09CV voltage regulator works on the principle of linear regulation. Linear regulation works by reducing the voltage obtained from the output of the power supply to the required level. It does this by passing the input voltage through a pass element such as a transistor to the load, with a feedback loop to the control node which retards the current entering the pass element if the output voltage rises above the required level, or increases the current if it drops below the required level. This creates a stable voltage to the load. The input voltage is 5.5V-12V and the output voltage can be adjusted from 8V to 12V.
