DM74ALS541WMX is a high-speed, low-power, low-voltage, TTL-compatible octal line driver/line receiver with tri-state outputs in a 24-pin SSOP package. It belongs to the Logic – Buffers, Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers family. It offers improved performance over earlier 54/74LS541, HC541, and 75ALS541. DM74ALS541WMX consists of an octal line driver with tri-state outputs. As a driver, it will accept lines of TTL data levels and output them as a line driven 60 mA sink current per output. As a receiver, it will accept signals from a line-driver having voltages as low as 1 mV and provide compatible TTL logic levels. With its low power supply requirements, it is well suited for low voltage mobile devices, with a VCC pin that operates from a wide supply range of (2.7V-5.5V). It also features a low current consumption of <15µA at 3V VCC, making it suitable for battery-operated devices.
DM74ALS541WMX device operation is divided into two sections: an eight bit 3-state line driver/receiver and a mode select logic section. The mode select logic section determines the operating mode and status of the eight bit driver/receiver. This is selected through its two mode select pins, MS1 and MS2.
In the normal active mode, the outputs represent the logic levels of the input pins. When the output drivers are enabled (MS1 and MS2 are both high) but no data is present at the input, the high level is delivered on the outputs. When enabled and the inputs are at a low-level, the outputs have low-level conditions. When the output drivers are disabled (MS1 and MS2 low), all outputs are in high-impedance state.
In the active passive mode, the outputs represent the logic levels of the input pins when the drivers are enabled (MS1 and MS2 both high). When the drivers are disabled (MS1 and MS2 both low), all inputs are high-impedance, but the outputs remain at their last state. When the drivers are enabled, the outputs remain in their last state (before disabling) until the inputs arrive.
At the input stage, the DM74ALS541WMX provides true TTL noise immunity. Single transient noise pulses are eliminated by internal input diode suppression, while the logic level thresholds remain unaffected. The DIOR (Data Input/Output Receiver) logic section allows the signals from receiver and driver sections to meet the corresponding logic inputs with at least 100mV of common mode noise margin over full temperature range.
To guarantee reliable data operations under noisy conditions, an internal power-on reset circuit is included in the device. This circuit provides initial power-up conditions to the logic outputs and eliminates false data during the initial power-up sequence. This circuit also disables both PL and PH outputs when power is applied, to prevent any false data from being transmitted.
