Introduction
LP5907UV-1.2EVM/NOPB is an evaluation module (EVM) from Texas Instruments (TI), which is designed to evaluate the performance of the LP5907 was low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator. The EVM has an LDO output voltage of 1.2V up to 1.8V, adjustable to as low as 0.8V, as well as an adjustable current limit of 110mA to 500mA. It has an input voltage range of 2.0V to 5.5V with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and a maximum power dissipation of 1.0W. Its board size is of 2.5 x 1.7 inches (64 x 43mm) and includes 2 LEDs so users can easily monitor the module’s status. Working Principle
The EVM includes a LP5907 and also an 8-pin SOT143 package for powering the LDO. The LP5907 is a low quiescent current linear regulator optimized for very low dropout voltage operation. It\'s ultra-low quiescent current is 30μA, and is an ideal choice for battery-powered applications. It\'s control methods are either using a resistor divider from the output to the EN pin, or an external reference or PWM signal.In normal operation, the control signal to the enable pin is a logical high, and the circuit is enabled. The voltage is regulated at the output, where an internal current mirror circuit is used as a shunt regulator, which provides the output voltage control quite accurately. The output current is then limited by the current sense resistor connected in series with the output. The LP5907 uses a low-IMAX architecture that offers low quiescent current and high load current capability without sacrificing accuracy.Conclusion
