Introduction: The LP5900SD-2.8EV is an advanced, low-power, low-voltage regulator in the Evaluation Boards - Linear Voltage Regulators series. This versatile low voltage regulator provides power control and various other features, such as pulse skipping, low quiescent current, and low dropout (LDO). It is designed to provide a very stable voltage across its equipped inputs and keeps the external load powered with less than 0.25V dropout, making it ideal for applications that require low voltage and low current consumption.Application Field: The LP5900SD-2.8EV is suitable for low power, low voltage applications, such as battery-operated and portable equipment, including mobile phones, tablets, consumer audio/video electronics, digital still cameras, PDAs, and white goods, such as washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners. It is also used in automotive applications where a stable voltage supply is required. Additionally, the LP5900SD-2.8EV can be used to power I2C sensors, CAN controllers, as well as to provide power and voltage protection in portable car battery chargers.Working Principle: The LP5900SD-2.8EV operates in two modes - in DC linear mode and in pulse skip mode. In the linear mode, its output capacitor is connected to its ground pin and the load is powered by a regulated DC output voltage. The output voltage is adjusted by an external voltage divider connected to the regulator\'s Adjust pin. The LP5900SD-2.8EV\'s voltage regulation is based on the principle of comparing the output voltage to a source reference voltage (a bandgap voltage reference is employed for this purpose) to maintain a regulated output voltage. In the pulse skip mode, the output voltage is regulated by controlling the switching frequency of an internal oscillator, thereby reducing power consumption and providing an overall cleaner power output.Features: The LP5900SD-2.8EV features an integrated low dropout linear regulator, overcurrent protection, reverse current protection, over-temperature protection, and reverse battery protection. Its high load transient performance is maintained by an active load-sharing circuit that can support up to two regulators in parallel.
