0341300000, also known as an Isolated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT), is a high power semiconductor whose main application field is the switching of high voltage and current continuously in a wide range of frequency. It is the most commonly used transistor for high power motor control, power conversion, and high power industrial automation applications. IGBTs are used in variety of fields ranging from automotive industry, communications, home appliances, consumer electronics, power supplies and so on.The working principle of an IGBT is similar to a bipolar junction transistor (BJT), but with some variations. BJT\'s rely on the diffusion of minority carriers to switch the base current into the collector current. Whereas, IGBT\'s use insulated-gate electrodes to control the current flowing between the emitter and collector terminals.The benefit of the IGBT over the BJT is its ability to handle higher voltages and current. It also requires much less power to switch from one state to another which makes it ideal for power switching devices. The IGBT can also achieve a much higher switching frequency than the BJT which is beneficial in some applications.When the IGBT is in cut-off mode, both the gate and collector and emitter are open and no current flows in either direction. This is a key feature of the IGBT which makes it ideal for high power applications. In the normally open state, current flows from the emitter to the collector provided that the base is forwardly biased. The current can either be increased or decreased depending on the amount of voltage applied to the gate terminal. If a voltage is applied to the gate terminal, the PN junction between the base and collector forms a reversely biased diode. This prevents the current from entering into the collector and cuts off the flow of current from the emitter. In the normally closed state, the current does not flow in either direction, thus the IGBT acts as an open switch.The IGBT also allows the user to control the amount of current flowing in either direction. This is referred to as pulse width modulation (PWM) control, which is beneficial in power conversion and motor control applications.To sum it up, the IGBT is a high power semiconductor that provides users with a reliable and efficient way of switching high voltage and current continuously in a wide range of frequency.
