Their versatility makes them well-suited for use in many different types of technology.The working principle of a Thin Film Capacitor is based on the fact that when two layers of metal are connected by a thin film made of an oxide, the average capacitance between the two metal layers is calculated based on the thickness of the oxide. The thicker the oxide layer is, the greater the capacitance between the two metal layers. The capacitance is also affected by the type of oxide used and the electrical properties of the metal layers.Thin Film Capacitors are constructed with three distinct layers: the metal electrodes, the oxide dielectric layer, and the metal substrate. The metal electrodes and the dielectric layer form a two-terminal device that is connected to the substrate via electrical connections.
