04603, also known as an induction motor, is a type of motor that is used to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. The principle of motor operation makes use of the effects of induction, induced by an alternating (AC) source of current, on a conductor placed in an alternating magnetic field. The inductor motor is able to provide high torque over a wide range of speed which makes them an ideal choice for industrial applications. Moreover, they are smaller, lighter and more efficient than conventional electric motors. The design of an induction motor consists of a stator, which is the outer frame of the motor that houses the laminations and windings, and a rotor, which houses the electromagnets and the copper coils. The stator is a rotating part of the motor that creates a magnetic field which interacts with the rotor. When electric current is passed through the stator windings, a rotating magnetic field is generated, which induces currents in the rotor. This in turn creates a magnetic field in the rotor, causing it to rotate in the same direction as the stator field. With the rotor rotating at a different speed to the stator field, a power transfer occurs from the rotor to the stator, creating torque and motion.The operating principle of an induction motor can be divided into two stages: the induction phase, which is the motor starting up, and the normal operating phase. When starting up, the induction motor works slightly differently. When power is applied to the stator, the induced current in the rotor lags behind the stator, thus, no effective power is transferred to the rotor. As the rotor speed increases, the rotor current increases accordingly, creating a greater magnetic force, which opposes the stator current. This increases the power transfer from the stator to the rotor and creates torque, causing the rotor to accelerate. As soon as the rotor speed reaches synchronous speed, the current produces a force which matches the stator current, and the rotor runs at same speed as the magnetic field. In the normal operating phase, the torque, power and speed of the motor remain constant. This is because the rotor speed is maintained at synchronous speed with the stator, and any difference in the field, either in speed or torque will cause current in the rotor to increase or decrease, allowing the motor to self-regulate.04603 induction motors are most commonly used in industrial processes such as grain handling, fans and pumps, and conveyors.
