Jumper Wires
Jumper wires are short, jumper cables often used to connect two places on a printed circuit board (PCB). They consist of a wire core and an insulating covering whose primary purpose is to protect the wiring in a confined space. The most commonly used jumper wire is a flat ribbon cable that has multiple strands of insulated wire connected in series. The insulation offers protection from wear, moisture, and corrosion and is usually made of either rubber or silicone. The cores of the jumper wires are made of either copper, bronze, or tin and they usually have a hole or notch in the end for connection to other components.
The primary applications of jumper wires are for connecting short-distance connections between two or more points on a PCB. Common uses include connecting data lines to components, connecting the power and ground lines of a circuit board, and connecting a circuit board’s control lines. Jumper wires are available in a variety of different lengths and materials, allowing for quick installation and adaptation for use in a variety of applications.
Pre-Crimped Leads
Pre-crimped leads are a form of custom cabling that includes a cable pre-cut and pre-crimped for easy connection to components within an electronic system. Pre-crimped leads are typically constructed of stranded copper wire or other flexible conductor materials, and are often fitted with insulation and a connector. The length of the cable and the type of connector depends on the purpose of use, whether the connection is short range or long range, and the type of signal. Pre-crimped leads are typically used for data signals and other low-level signals, although larger, more powerful leads are also available.
The primary benefit of pre-crimped leads is that they provide a consistent, reliable connection with low resistance. The connector is crimped onto the cable at the factory, greatly reducing the risk of faulty connections or shorts. Additionally, the connectors can be customized to suit a wide range of applications, and if the cable is damaged or needs to be replaced, the connector can be easily disconnected from the rest of the system.
Pre-crimped leads are commonly used in high-speed communication systems, where data needs to be transferred accurately and quickly. They can also be used for military and aerospace applications, where complex signal paths require robust and reliable connections. Pre-crimped leads are also popular for automotive applications, such as navigation systems or car audio systems.
