Backplane Connectors - DIN 41612

DIN 41612 backplane connectors are a kind of electrical connectors which are made for short distance connections in motherboards and backplanes. The DIN 41612 connector is also known by the names of MU, Multi-Unit Connector, and Micro-graphic connector. It is particularly well suited for internal connections of sandwich-style panels, such as those used in PCs, industrial controllers, and communication devices. The backplane connectors are in the form of pin-strap assemblies that look like rectangular rows of projection pins in different shapes and sizes. The most common types of DIN 41612 connectors are four-row connectors with pin rows set at 45° angles. Depending on the application, DIN 41612 connectors are either mounted on the panel or soldered directly onto the printed circuit board.

Application Field

DIN 41612 backplane connectors are used in many diverse areas where weight and space are big considerations, such as in PCs, communications, industrial control systems, programmable logic controllers and instrument control. This connector provides a fast connection to make secure connection points on the back planes.

Working Principle

The DIN 41612 connector is composed of a series of high-density housings, each with a set of female pins. Each female pin is designed to perfectly match the male pins from the mating side of the connector. When these connectors are mated, the male and female pins make contact with each other which establishes the electrical connection. There are two power contacts and two signal contacts that are located in each pin row of the connector.
