1.5KE24A-TP is a type of Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode. It is designed to guard sensitive electronics by clamping voltage transients to safe levels. The device is a bi-directional TVS with an electronic registration file (ERF) registered bipolar junction transistor (BJT) technology. It is rated for a peak pulse power dissipation of 1.5KW and an operating peak pulse current of 24A.
Application Field
1.5KE24A-TP devices are primarily used to protect vulnerable circuit components from destruction due to electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT), lightening and other voltage transients. Such applications include power, data, telephone and other sensitive electronics in industrial, commercial and consumer equipment. The device design incorporates elements to ensure against over-voltage and over-power conditions.
Working Principle
Essentially, a 1.5KE24A-TP device provides a low-impedance path to ground for transient-voltage exceeding its breakdown voltage, safely dissipating the energy across its small package size. Each device comprises of two parallel-connected rectifying elements, which exhibit different operating characteristics for ESD, EFT and other transients. The two elements are connected in parallel, so that they become effectively equivalent to a single element with an increased operating current rating. This provides superior surge capability over a wider temperature range, due to lower inherent dynamic junction capacitance. Thermal capability of 1.5KE24A-TP is affected primarily by junction-to-ambient thermal resistance, with a typical maximum transient energy dissipation of 1.5 kilowatts.
The device features a thermal shutdown circuit which initiates when the die temperature exceeds a preset temperature of 145°C. When the thermal shutdown circuit is triggered, the device will shut off and its voltage rating will decrease to 6V. The device is designed with an extended junction-to-lead temperature range of -65°C to 150°C, but the power derating of the device must be taken into consideration to ensure reliable operation.
1.5KE24A-TP devices are designed for surface-mount applications and feature an extended Electrical Registration File (ERF) registered device family. This results in enhanced uniformity of assembly and performance characteristics across the device family, and also provides mechanism for tracking the reliability of a specific application with usage time. The ultra-small package size of 1.5KE24A-TP devices enhances design flexibility and compatibility with the popular 0.050" (1.27mm) board grid.
