Terminal Blocks - Headers, Plugs and Sockets

Terminal blocks are one of the most important components in electronic equipment, providing reliable transmission of signals, power, and data. They fall into two main types: headers, plugs, and sockets. Each type has different applications and working principles.

Headers

Headers are designed primarily for one-time electrical connection in the manufacturing of printed circuit boards. They are the most common type of terminal block, typically made of stamped metal. They are designed for easy insertion in and extraction from the mating socket and they provide reliable contacts with more than two wires.

Sockets

Sockets are designed to accept multiple plugs, allowing for multiple electrical connections at one point. Unlike headers, sockets allow for the connection of multiple wires at once, making them ideal for mass wiring applications or production line environments. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from small pin-in types to larger multi-contact usage sockets. Sockets are available with pins, ferrules (lightweight non-conductive clamps), and sockets, and are used for rapid and reliable electrical interconnections.

Terminal blocks, headers, plugs, and sockets fill important roles in the modern electrical environment.
