Terminal Blocks - Headers, Plugs and Sockets are typically used in applications in which a smaller number of terminals and connections are required. They are also used to extend or amplify existing wiring connections. Depending on the application, the installation can be temporary, permanent, or semi-permanent.

Headers are blocks with multiple slots that hold terminals. They are used when there are multiple connections and more than one circuit in an application, such as in centralized wiring. Headers are designed to accommodate the various wire gauges and can accommodate a range of contact types such as screw, push-in, or spring-clamp contacts. Installation of the headers is permanent and requires some form of containment box or surface mount to prevent accidental contact with live terminals.

Plugs are typically used when a limited number of terminals are needed in an application. Generally speaking, the larger the number of terminals, the smaller the plug, and vice versa. They come in either a pre-assembled or modular form, allowing them to be tailored to the application. The installation of plugs is a semi-permanent process, and they can be easily taken apart for maintenance or signaling tests.

Sockets are blocks which are designed to be attached to a circuit board or other wiring devices. They allow for easy access to a set of terminals or components. These blocks also provide isolation from high voltage levels on the circuit board or wiring devices. The installation of sockets is generally temporary and requires the additional use of tooling or mounting hardware.

The purpose of these blocks is to provide insulation from wire connections, to protect other circuitry or devices from voltage spikes, and to reduce the amount of energy wasted due to poor connections.
